Restore access to a board

This article explains how to confirm whether you have lost access to a report and how to restore it.

Can you lose access to a board?

Yes. The above error message appears when a report uses a board as its source and you no longer have permission to access that board.

How can you verify your access?

You can check whether you still have access to a board in any of the following ways:

  1. Select the Space in the Jira sidebar. If no boards appear under the space, you do not have access to any of its boards.

  2. Open the Space and review its navigation tabs. If the Active sprints and Backlog tabs are missing, you do not have access to the board.
However, you can still open a report from a navigation shortcut even if the report uses that board as its source. When you open the report, the above error message appears because you no longer have access to the board.

  3. Open the Manage Pivot Reports page from the navigation tabs or directly from the app.

    • If the Input column shows a board, space, or JQL query, you still have access to that source.

    • If the Input column displays Not Available where a board, space, or filter should appear, you no longer have access to that source. Although you can still open the report, it cannot load because its source is no longer accessible.

Even if you do not have access to a board, you can still add, remove, or edit navigation shortcuts if you have Jira admin or Space admin permissions, as described in the related article.

However, if the Active sprints and Backlog tabs are missing because you do not have board permissions, you cannot create a report using the board's action menu.

How can you restore your access?

A Space admin or Board admin can lose access to a board if they no longer have Viewer or Editor permission for the board's filter.

To restore access, contact the owner or an editor of the board filter and ask them to restore your Viewer or Editor permission for the board filter.

To identify the owner of any filter, including private filters, a Jira admin can:

  1. Select the Settings (gear) icon in Jira's top navigation bar.

  2. Under Jira admin settings, select System.

  3. In the left sidebar, under Shared items, select Filters.

  4. Search for the report filter.
