Pivot Report

Name the report

This article explains how to the report name and description will be affected by the method used to create the report. The steps for renaming a report and adding notes are listed in a related article.

You can create a Pivot Report from several places in Jira:

  1. Issue navigator: by converting results of a query or a saved Filter into a report

  2. Actions: by using building a report around a single work item

  3. Boards: by converting Kanban or Scrum board issues into a report

  4. Manage Pivot Reports page: by creating a custom report

Issue navigator

By default, when you create a report in the Issue Navigator:

  1. Report name – If you use a saved filter, the report’s name matches the filter name. If you use an unsaved search query, the report is named Custom Search. Until the report is saved, its name remains a hyperlink to the search query in the Issue Navigator.

  2. Description – The report description shows whether Parent, Sibling, and Child issues are included, based on the selections in the ‘Pivot Report Options’ pop-up.

  3. Tabs included – All tabs are available by default: Issue Structure, Pivot, Charts, Worklogs/Comments, Capacity, and Warnings.

To rename the report, update its description, adjust its scope (e.g. remove Parent or Sibling issues), or add more tabs, first save the report, then use the Sidebar to make changes.

Issue view

Widgets (Cloud only)

  1. Report name – Matches the work item’s Summary where the widget is used. Until saved, the name remains a hyperlink to the work item.

  2. Description – Shows whether Parent, Sibling, and Child items are included, based on the widget’s configuration.

    • Reports from the Work item Tree widget include Parent, Sibling, and Child items related to the source work item.

    • Reports from the Work item Progress widget include Child items related to the source work item.

  3. Tabs included – Only the Work item Structure tab is included.

To rename the report, update its description, adjust its scope (e.g. remove Parent or Sibling work items), or add more tabs, first save the report, then use the Sidebar to make changes.

  1. Report name – Matches the board’s name where the actions menu is used. Until saved, the name remains a hyperlink to the board.

  2. Description – Shows which sprint work items are included.

    • For Active Sprint, Future Sprint, or Backlog issues, the description reflects the option selected. For example, the screenshot above shows a report created from the SSP board for Active Sprint issues.

    • For Custom issues, the description displays “Board Report” when the report is created using options from the Pivot Report Options pop-up.

To rename the report, update its description, adjust its scope (e.g. remove Parent or Sibling issues), or add more tabs, first save the report, then use the Sidebar to make changes.

Manage Pivot Reports page

When you create a report using the pop-up on the Manage Pivot Reports page, the report name and description depend on the selected report source. The steps for using this pop-up are described in a related article.

For each report source, refer to the report creation method that produces matching content:

  • Project – The report is named after the selected Space and does not include a description.

  • Board – The content matches that of reports created from Boards.

  • Service Queue – The report is named Pivot Report and does not include a description.

  • Saved Filter – The content matches that of reports created from the Issue navigator.

  • Issue – The content matches that of reports created from Actions.

  • JQL – The content matches that of reports created from the Issue navigator.
